About the Tour's Creators
Sunny Rice: Sunny moved permanently to Petersburg in 1995, after spending several summers working in the local canneries. She is the local Marine Advisory Program Agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and one of the founders of Petersburg’s Rainforest Festival. She was inspired to write the text and poems for this tour after walking the route every day during the Covid lockdown.
YaKunda.ein Avery Herrman-Sakamoto: Avery is the voice of this tour, one that is familiar to locals through her shows on KFSK, Petersburg’s community radio station.
Kelly Bakos: Kelly's storytelling work catapulted her around the world filming documentary films and developing outreach for science and wildlife conservation causes. Her love for Alaska drew her back in 2016, and she now lives year round in Petersburg where in the summer months she puts on her captain’s hat and leads whale watching and tidewater glacier naturalist tours. She is the techie behind this walking tour: she designed the tour website, recorded the environmental sound effects, produced the audio and contributed photographs.
